Personal

My name is Mike Carr. I live in Prince George, BC, Canada. I have the debateable pleasure of living less than 10 km from where I was born, and within 7 km of every school I've ever attended. You can see this within Google Earth for those skeptical of my claim (or geekishness).

I'm an active Toastmaster and the Vice President Public Relations for Prince George Toastmasters #3081. I'm a strong believer in the Toastmasters philosophy and am always willing to take a guest along if you're interested! I will be completing my Competent Communicator and Competent Leader designations for the end of the current Toastmaster year in June 2008. I will be running in the elections for Vice President of Education for the upcoming 2008/2009 year. I also currently have a goal for 2008/2009 to compete in every Toastmaster competition offered, and plan to run for club president on 2009 when I'll have my AC-B designation complete. (Publically stated) goals are good!

I'm a newly unemployed systems administrator as of June 6, 2008. I'm looking forward to new opportunities as they arise! I've worked in IT since 1997 as a sysadmin, consultant, and/or programmer. I'm actively doing coding in Perl, PHP, in Visual Basic for Applications within Excel and Access, and in Delphi. I generally have my hand in any number of open source projects. I'm an avid debhead.

I'm an avid fish keeper and have information on FishThatIKeep.

I'm a big fan of the English language and have a page on PoetryILike. My reading these days tends to the Fantasy / Sci-Fi - anything Asimov, Anthony, Jordan, Brooks, etc.
